DANESE MILANO

Historic Italian design company Danese was founded in 1957 by designer and entrepreneur Bruno Danese and his wife Jacqueline Vodoz with the goal of creating innovative everyday objects.

Danese’s business activity began as a workshop that created unique objects and artistic pieces. An encounter with Bruno Munari and Enzo Mari, two great Italian design masters, inspired the start of Danese’s industrial production. The result was a collection of innovative home and office products that interpret new needs.

Since the very beginning, the company has created essential pieces of design, children’s games and toys, and has given special attention to product packaging.

Bruno Munari and Enzo Mari created exemplary products for Danese that have made history in Italian design. There is Munari’s famous Falkland pendant lamp made from nylons, and Mari’s Bambù collection of white ceramic vases inspired by architectural structural elements like the Corinthian column and natural ones like bamboo.

In May 1991, Danese ended its thirty-year business, selling the company to multinational company Strafor-Facom, and Bruno and Jacqueline set up a foundation with the name of the original company in order to promote all forms of creativity.

Danese was then acquired by Carlotta De Bevilacqua, architect and wife of Ernesto Gismondi, an engineer and owner of Artemide. In 2017 and 2018, the company’s artistic direction was entrusted to Israeli designer Ron Gilad, who redesigned the logo, refreshed its catalogue, and designed new objects with a minimalist style.

Since 2019, the company continues to be managed by Carlotta De Bevilacqua under artistic director Giulio Iacchetti, and forges along the path created by Ron Gilad by creating a variety of products, from small-scale to more industrial ones.
